About Us

The San Diego Reggio Roundtable began with a workshop given by Liz Fairchild and Becky Candra at the 1999 fall conference of the San Diego Association of the Education of Young Children (SDAEYC) .It was the last workshop of the day so only a few participants were expected and yet over 60 people crowded into a very small room. From that first gathering, the Reggio Roundtable was started as an Interest Forum of SDAEYC. The name “Roundtable” evolved because we knew that we were not experts. We wanted people to know that this was a sharing process of information and an exchange of ideas.

The Reggio Roundtable includes visits to centers exploring the Reggio Emilia Approach, full day workshops and presentations on the use of materials and the principles of the Reggio Emilia Approach, book study groups and other events.

Margie Carter, Deb Curtis and Ann Pelo from Seattle, Patricia Hunter McGrath from the Blueberry Atelier in Santa Monica,  Alise Shafer from the Evergreen Community School in Santa Monica, George Foreman from the University of Massachusetts, and Dr. Shareen Abrahmson from Fresno State University have all been workshop presenters.

In 2006 the San Diego Reggio Roundtable became an independent entity and is now presently incorporated as a non- profit educational organization.
